TOUR UPDATE: The official Scandinavian Maiden party is announced. Ullevi, are you ready?

Iron Maiden returns to Gothenburg’s massive Ullevi Stadium on the 17th of June next summer.

Sweden is without a doubt home away from home for Iron Maiden. Next year will see the band return to Ullevi in Gothenburg for a fourth time. Maiden first played there on the Eddie Rips Up Europe Tour in 2005. Then they sold out the 57.000 tickets in less than an hour. Last time the band played there was in 2011 during The Final Frontier Tour. Sold out again, of course.

Since the last time Maiden visited, Ullevi has been renovated and expanded to hold up to 75.000 for concerts, depending on configuration. Metallica played to some 62.000 fans this summer. Maidenheads, can you beat that? Let’s prove who is boss.

Tickets go on sale Monday the 26th of October.

  1. Reserved my tickets today! Yay!

This is my best guess at the setlist, with my preferred, fantasy choice of song in brackets:

    Intro
    1. If Eternity Should Fail
    2. Speed Of Light
    3. Wrathchild
    4. Killers
    5. The Trooper
    6. The Red And The Black (Dream Of Mirrors)
    7. Can I Play With Madness?
    8. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
    9. Coming Home
    10. The Book Of Souls
    11. Heaven Can Wait (Sea Of Madness)
    12. Tears Of A Clown
    13. Fear Of The Dark
    14. Iron Maiden

    Encores
    15. The Number Of The Beast
    16. Flight Of Icarus
    17. Hallowed Be Thy Name

    • I’d love something like this:

      1. If Eternity Should Fail
      2. Speed of Light
      3. Death or Glory
      4. Heaven Can Wait
      5. The Number of the Beast
      6. The Trooper
      7. El Dorado (or Benjamin Breeg)
      8. Sign of the Cross
      9. Tears of a Clown
      10. The Book of Souls
      11. Powerslave
      12. Fear of the Dark
      13. Iron Maiden

      Encore:

      14. The Man of Sorrows
      15. Killers (or Icarus)
      16. Hallowed Be Thy Name

I love some of your fantasy picks Tim 🙂 Seeing any one the following four (let alone more than one) out of Killers, Icarus, Stranger in a Strange Land or Sea of Madness in the 2016 set list would get me excited 😀

      • A couple of beers mixed in with that setlist would be a good night out!
Powerslave and Stranger In A Strange Land were on my shortlist but had to go so as not to wander too far into the realm of fantasy 😃.

  2. @Christer

Christer, feel free to take this post if you feel it doesn’t need to be in two places – I have posted again in the ‘Bruce Speaks: New Album and New Tour’ thread. I think it will probably get a bit more traction there.

    • I’d guess they’ve made a deal with Download not to announce any more UK shows until at least the festival. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bruce makes an onstage announcement of a UK arena tour for either late 2016 or early 2017. The band have done that before!

      • Cool, hopefully they’ll come to ireland again if not I’ll be heading to England saw them in the O2 in 2011 and 2013, great shows

      • The band have been talking about an upcoming UK tour at some point during this cycle, and I sure hope Ireland would be included in that.

      • Indeed they have! I remember standing in a muddy field in the rain at Donington Monsters Of Rock feeling not a little disappointed and angry at having travelled many a mile to sit through Kiss and other lightweight fare in order to cheer on my favourite band at their “only UK concert in 1988”, only for Bruce to announce that Maiden would be touring the UK properly – inside, warm and dry – only 3 months later!! 😦 😦

  3. A full UK tour is long overdue. I’m guessing London’s O2 will be included for 2 or 3 nights, although I’d love to see a week long run at Wembley Arena.
